Conil de la Frontera

Overview

Situated to the south-west of the province of Cádiz, Conil de la Frontera combines the beauty of the Sierra de Grazalema white towns with the charm of a fishing town.

Conil beach, is a wide bay of brilliant yellow sand stretching for miles to either side of town and lapped by an amazingly, not to say disarmingly, gentle Atlantic - you have to walk a long way out before it reaches waist height so is perfect for families. The area immediately in front of town is the family beach; up to the northwest you can walk to some more sheltered coves, while across the river to the southeast is a topless and nudist area. Walking along the coast in this direction the beach is virtually unbroken until it reaches the cape, Cabo de Trafalgar. If the winds are blowing, everyone deserts the beach and heads into the narrow roads of Conil where you can sit at a cafe without being sandblasted.

Conil Feria, or fair, happens in the first week of September when the virgin of light, the patron saint of Conil, gets carried through the streets followed by more than 200 horses in traditional outfits. This is a time of celebration and all the shops close for the week. Get ready to party!
